Bezüglich

On Monday, January 29th, a portion of my left foot lost some of its feeling. It's not completely numb, but it's close. Two days later, something similar happened to my left knee, although it was even less numb than the section of my foot in question. There hasn't been any loss of strength, or any change in these parts since they began behaving the way they have.

The doctor at the walk-in clinic (which I headed to after the foot kicked in, but before the knee) scared the shit out of me by implying that it could potentially be Multiple Sclerosis, since the kind of strange nerve happenings that must be going on with my appendage are fairly unusual. While he said the chances were probably 1% or so that that was the case, he left it hanging in such a way that suggested he thought the chances were much better than that in my case.

A visit to the emergency room for a second opinion after my knee got involved resulted in a more thorough examination (reflexes, judging direction, flashing bright things in my eyes, etc) and a similar, but somewhat more comforting prognosis. Sure, it could be MS, but it's far more likely something like an inflamed nerve. Should clear up in 7-10 days. Nothing to lose sleep over. Except it's been 7-10 days now, and no change. So what is it?

Anyone with any insight into the causes of isolated patches of partial numbness?

I don't really know anything about this, but apparently peoples' limbs can become numb with no known physical cause. It's purely psychological. Freud based a lot of his stuff on this.

Have you been having any dreams about stuffing hot dogs in tubes labeled "mom"?

How... how did you know? Get out of my head!!

And by that, I mean: How interesting!

As an update, the numbness has been very gradually subsiding since I made this post. There's still a hint of it there, but most of the feeling has returned. No idea what that means, one way or the other, but I'm not panicking.

See? Becoming aware of your repressed feelings made the problems go away. Freud was right all along!

I expect a large cheque for my therapy fee in the mail.
